This is where the Apple departure from the land of mucho user
configurability really hurts. This pretty much started because that exact
effect is what I found caused me to get an eyestrain headache and, in fact,
I even felt a bit 'seasick' because of the bad/unexpected/unphysical visual
cue. I'm very glad that the magnification can be turned off or else I would
never, ever, be able to use OS X. If I want magnification, I expect it to
work like a physical magnifier. My brain is 'calibrated' to that. [BTW, I
seem to recall that *many* years ago (i.e., on my Fat Mac or MacPlus) there
was something Apple had (or perhaps it was shareware) that worked like a
magnifier. I forget the name...]
