This sounds like it might be the LCD itself losing a row or column driver
but there is an outside chance that it might be a poor contact on the
display cable. You will have to dismantle the machine to see.

This is definitely a display cable that has been pierced by a clutch spring
that has come out from the hinge due to age.
The only solution is to strip the eMate down and repair the cable or wait
for a replacement to be made available.

<http://www.pda-soft.de> and I have collaborated on a comprehensive,
illustrated guide on eMate disassembly and repair on his pages which will be
finished soon.
In the mean time _do not_ articulate the screen of the eMate to prevent the
damage becoming worse.
