[NTLK] Wavelan questions

Hi all,

I'm the happy owner of a Lucent Silver WLan card that I bought from
Darren Da Silva. It arrived in time and it works like a charm (thanks
Darren).

I have four questions about it.
First, this morning SimpleMail didn't want to download my 32nd
e-mail. Removing the list of UIDLs didn't help and finally I gave up.
This mail didn't seem strange or whatever, it was in fact a NTLK
message (not the digest). Maybe it's some weirdness of the weird
version of SimpleMail I have, I'll upgrade to the latest in a minute
(I've got an old one that doesn't do IMAP). But did anyone experience
such a thing with WLan? I heard about problems with installing large
packages (I didn't have any when installing Internet Setup which is
(only) 180 KB), it might be related.

Second, I wonder if anyone else has this problem but when Internet is
disconnected, the card remains powered. And this sucks batteries, 250
mA instead of 95 when the card is removed. Any idea? Is it a bug?

Third, vaguely related. I didn't take the card to go to university
today but I took my Newton with as the only new package the Wavelan
driver (which I used this morning). I unfroze SimpleMail and Internet
packages, but that's the only new thing.
I noticed that it never went asleep. Maybe it's because I haven't
been used to notes taking at a university lecture for a while (it was
the first day today) that I find it strange, I didn't do any rational
test (it might have been to sleep when I more or less fell asleep
myself, I don't recall switching it off).
Anyone had that bad feeling that the Newton doesn't go to sleep or I
probably just get to get used to notes taking and my 10 minutes
settings?

Finally, I wonder if anyone succeeded to do WEP and could clearly
explain me how to do so with an Airport base. This might be a common
question but I only found John's Skinner post on his NPDS server
saying that WEP no longer works at his since he updated the firmware
of his silver card (I recall people explaining here how to do that
upgrade, with John's issues and the fact that it involves using an
Airport-capable mac and I don't own any, I'm not really fond of the
idea).
This silver card is supposed to do 64 bits WEP. But the WEP password
I got in Airport settings is definitely a 128 bits password. If I
enter it (well, with a soup editor, there is a bug in WLan driver
1.05's GUI which I mentioned to Hiroshi), it doesn't work. Should I
enter just the first half? The password is definitely more than 5
characters long.

Darren suggested to enter the MAC addresses which is a good idea. But
I would prefer to also have WEP for the privacy of the LAN.

Paul
