Hey, gang:

My name is Steve Vander Ark. I'm a librarian and writer from Michigan
who has been using Newts since the 110 came out. Some of you may
remember me, since I was a long-time Newtontalker until about a year
ago. I recently re-upped after reading the Wired News article and
remembering how much I loved being part of this community. I still use
my Newton every day, but I can see by the hundred or so posts I've
gotten just in the last day or two that I'm behind the times! The last I
knew, the best we could manage for music from the Newton was ModPlayer,
but now am I right in thinking that it's possible to play mp3s? Also,
the last I remember, the fancy driver for the cheaper and larger cards
was in alpha testing. Again, I'm getting the impression that this is
much closer to reality, am I right?

I have a few other questions, if you'll allow me. How do I find out
about all the latest marvels without pestering the list over and over?
There used to be websites that listed all the latest and greatest, but
I'm finding that most of my saved bookmarks don't work anymore.

This question is more basic. My current laptop has no serial port. I did
a search in the FAQ files but couldn't find any recommended solutions
for that. Since I have no serial port, I have had no way to back up my
Newton or to load packages in quite some time. Also, I can't print
through my laptop the way I used to or transfer Works docs to Word. Can
anyone take a moment to suggest some possible ways around this? I really
miss having that connection; it really made the Newton a lot more
useful.

Finally, is there any way to use my Newton on my Novell/Windows network
to back up to another networked computer or to transfer packages or text
files? I know I used to connect to our network and go on the web, but I
could never actually use NBU or any other connection utility that way as
I recall. Is that now possible?

Thanks
Steve Vander Ark
