[NTLK] recharging issue

Sorry if this has been addressed before, I'm new to the list and
couldn't find an answer in the FAQs.

I got my MP2k (upgraded to 2100) last week. It came bare bones, no
adapters or cables, so I bought a standard 7,5V/750mA regulated
transformer, and managed to charge it the first time. Now the battery
died on me (after issuing a low battery warning a few seconds
beforehand), and I can't get it to charge. The settings on the adapter
are the same (shield negative), but the Newton stays off. Am I
correctly depressing the on/off button until the newt turns on, or do I
have to just depress it once and wait for it to charge? Or does it not
give any feedback while charging? (during first charge, it booted and
was functional).

Thanks for any help, and I apologize if this has been addressed before.
