you're not missing anything
Connected to the AAUI port of a suitable mac (6100, 7100, 8100, and a
number of other 7x00 and 8x00 series ) it just works
No driver or other software required
need another ?
I have 5 or 6
They made 2 versions
The small metal ones (I have a couple) and larger plastic case ones
I find the small ones more durable
