Airport presumably works on the 1400. I don't know about the 5300. Cardbus
is a 32bit protocol, and the original PCMCIA protocol is 16 bit. I have been
beating my head against the wall over this very issue for the past week,
trying to find an ethernet card for my 1400. :-)

As for when Cardbus entered the Mac portable line, it seems to have been in
the middle of the life of the 3400. Early models can't do it without
modication, and maybe not even then, but later models can do it, and some,
it seems, without even modification. In any case, the 3400 seems to be
somewhat Cardbus enabled, and all after that are.
