Clean the battery terminals with a pencil eraser.

Even a new battery pack has been in storage for a long time.

Had the same problem with a 2100 I bought from J&K.

Charging was very inconsistent.

Cleaning the terminals cleared up the problem.

Subject: [NTLK] "New" Battery pack is DOA

This isn't a customer service complaint. I bought a "new" battery pack
for my MP 2100 from a reputable vendor who promises I can return it if
it's still not working after the weekend. I have tried repeatedly to
get the battery to take a charge without success. I am using the Apple
9W power adapter. I plug in the adapter and insert the battery pack.
The first time I left it for an hour and came back. When I unplugged
the power cord, the newton turned off and would not restart with the
battery. I removed the battery pack, plugged it back into the cord, and
reinserted the battery. This time I turned it on to see what happens.
It shows "fast charging" using the battery meter on Avi's backdrop for
a couple of minutes and the battery level on the extras folder says
"charging" with the progress meter at zero. Then, it switches to
"tricklechargecontinuous" after a few minutes on Avi's and the extras
folder says "charged" with a sold black line in the progress meter. The
capacity level shows "0" on Avi's. Same thing happens every time. Is
this just a bad battery? or is there something I should try before I
return it? I have had no problems up to now using the AA battery tray
with the Newton.
