I believe that PalmDesktop v4.0 will no work. I may suggest you to
downgrade to v2.6.3.
You can not have both NCU and PalmDesktop running at the same time when
syncing.
With PalmDesktop v2.6.3 I'm currently able to sync my calendar, names,
todos and notes with no problems and even mimic the folder structure I
use in my newton applications with the categories of PalmDesktop.
If you can wait a little more I'm currently preparing a tutorial for
The Green Edge about syncing PalmDesktop (Mac) with Newton. It will
have information about setting up the files and adjusting fields rules
and will be published in our first edition.
