Greetings to planet Green from planet Earth,
I'm hoping some of you Belkin adapter users out there have some tricks up
your sleeve to share with me today. I just bought a model F5U103-MAC adapter
and can't seem to make it fly.
CONFIGURATION:
I'm running OS 9.1 on a 266mhz iMac and trying to connect to a Newt 2100.
Even downloaded the "OS 9.x" driver from Belkin.com.
WHAT I HAVE TRIED:
Even after the ritual unplugging and re-inserting the USB cable (learned of
this trick via some research in the archives), the preferences in NCU seldom
shows the right choice.
Ususally I can only select from...
Appletalk
Internal modem
Then, after some fiddling, a new option appears called...
"Printer Port USB"
Then finally, the ultimate, yet anti-climactic success of seeing the option
appears called...
"Belkin USB Serial Adapter"
I've tried selecting either and all of the latter (when they decide to show
up) but my 2100 tries and tries but times out due to "...no response".
I know the serial cable is good cuz I've tested it on my old PPC which has a
built-in serial port and has NCU installed. No troubles whatsoever.
Normally I use Ethernet to connect to NCU (which works totally slick) but
this is just a preliminary test of the adapter.
I mainly got this adapter to use with Palm Desktop but I've got some garbage
data in there just now so I'm not ready to sync. That's why I'm
test-driving the connection with NCU.
Grateful for your thoughts/suggestions everyone!
TIA,
db
