In theory, yes, it should be possible to put a header or port where the
SER-001 would go that would give you access to all of the Newton
Interconnect pins. And if a standard port is used, we would be able to make
all sorts of dongles without risking the Interconnect port.
I could always just do a little continuity check between the Interconnect
and the header to find which pins are which, but it will be kind of
difficult since the Interconnect port doesn't exactly have contacts I can
get to. It is harder to get a particular one of those pins than it is to
get the most internal of the iPod remote's pins.
Of course, if the Q blueprint thing wasn't just some sort of hoax, the
Interconnect port could be reinforced. I somehow doubt that it could push
through aluminum supports.
