Soybo Redefines Remote Access And Web Services
Stanford, California -- March 28, 2003
Adam Tow has announced today the availability of Soybo 1.0.0, a
cross-platform and device independent technology that allows
applications to publish their functionality as web services, accessible
by any Internet-enabled device.
Imagine accessing the applications on your desktop computer from your
mobile phone or handheld device? Imagine accessing critical files from
your home computer while traveling on vacation or business? Imagine
controlling your computer from across the room or across the Pacific
Ocean. Soybo enables all this and more.
The idea of remote access is not new. Products such as VNC, GoToMyPC,
Remote Desktop, and Remote Access have all worked by recreating or
emulating the desktop experience, placing the user -- virtually
speaking -- right in front of the remote computer. This method places
an increased emphasis on the:
* Speed of the Internet connection
* Power and functionality of the remote and client computers
* Presentation capabilities of the remote and client computers
The attraction of remote access on mobile devices is clear. The fact
is, however, handhelds and phones don't have the bandwidth, processing
power, and display capabilities of desktop computers. These
limitations make the traditional approach to remote access impractical
on these devices.
Soybo takes a different approach to remote access by looking at the
problem from an application-centric, rather than a computer-centric
standpoint. By enabling applications on the remote computer to publish
their functionality as web services, accessible through a standard web
browser, Soybo enables remote access on a wide range of Internet
devices, including desktop and laptop computers, handhelds, and mobile
phones.
Soybo is:
* Cross-Platform: The Soybo Server runs on Mac OS X, Linux, and
Windows* platforms, allowing applications on these systems to
publish their information and functionality as web services.
* Device Independent: Application logic is completely separated
from presentation logic, allowing the Soybo Service (Soyvice)
Developer to create services that run and look great
on any Internet-enabled device, including desktops, laptops,
tablets, handhelds, and phones.
* Extensible: Soyvices can be written in virtually any computing
language, such as PHP, AppleScript, Perl, Ruby, C++, and Java**
* Localization: Soybo and Soyvices can easily be localized.
* Open Source: Soybo is available under an Open Source license.
Soybo is also available under a non-Open Source license for those
companies that do not want to be restricting by the far-reaching
requirements of an Open Source license.
With Soybo, companies and individuals can create and publish web
services that control powerful applications and access information
residing on Soybo-powered computers on the Internet. These applications
and information can be viewed on any Internet-enabled device in a
presentation appropriate for each device.
Soybo bridges the digital divide by drastically reducing the hardware
requirements necessary for remote accessing of computing resources.
Just as the Internet revolutionized access to information, Soybo frees
applications from the confines of personal computers.
