Re: [NTLK] People Still Recognize the Newton

Okay, time for my two cents LOL!
I am 20 years old (soon to be 21) and am in college studying chemical
engineering. As you can guess, most of the people that go to my college are
"dorks" in the sense that they would be the pocket protector, high voiced
kind of people who aren't very social. Not everyone is like that here, but
agood number are. Anyway, I brought my eMate to work (I work on a homework
hotline on campus) and was playing around with it. I wanted to see just how
many of my colleagues would stop and say something. Surprisingly, about
halfthe people at work that night asked me what the heck is that thing! Of
course, I gave a full demo and showed off some of its finer points, and
everyone was real impressed. Being an engineering school, lots of
engineering software is made for PC's and 99% of the computers on campus are
non-Macs, so when they found out it was made by Apple, I got some negative
feedback on that, but only from a few. A lot of people have become more
tolerant of the Mac/PC thing recently which is good. Most of them loved it
and I can tell a few of them probably wanted one of their own! I love my
eMate and Newtons, I balance my checkbook on them, keep track of my
assignments and school related stuff, and soon once I have my internship
thissummer, to keep track of meetings, deadlines, etc. Long live the
Newton!!! :-)

Hi guys,
OOOH, OOOH...my turn!

Last week, Wed. night, I was with a large group, about 20 or so, a
majority of whom are CG artists, very high-tech minded people. We were
at an early screening for the Matrix Reloaded. While we were waiting for
the trailers to start, I pulled out my Newt and played Deep Green chess
with a friend of mine. In the darkened theater, the large green
backlight is extremly visible, a friend of a friend asked if it was a
Newton. Eventually this turned into a small demo to that guy - same
thing we all do showing off the Newt. Then he said, "I always wanted
one." Several of my friends were watching this, all of whom have either
a Palm or Pocket PC, compared their handheld to mine - the usual
discussion about pda's . My chess partner then said, "Since he's a
designer, he has to show off his stuff to us CG guys. It's still cool,
though."

That bought a smile to my face.

Later,
Jonathan
