[NTLK] New Newton Owner

Hi,

Haven't touched a Newton in years. Was the owner of a Sharp ExpertPad,
and then a MP120 or 130 (I forget) way back when. I've just bought a
mint (or so it said, we'll see when it arrives) MessagePad 2000 off of
eBay, and am looking for some suggestions.

First, it comes with the Newton, a keyboard, a case for the keyboard, 2
2mb linear pcmcia cards, the AC adapter, stylus, screen cover, and a
"battery sled". I can't remember to well, but I recall there being both
rechargeable batteries for the Newton, and I thought there was a way to
use 4 AA batteries. I presume that's what the sled is for, and
therefore I'll be using AA batteries, since there's no rechargeable? If
that's the case, what are the implications for battery life. Does a
brand new battery pack provide longer life, or am I better using NiMH
rechargeable AA batteries?

Secondly, I'll be using the Newton primarily to manage my real estate
customers. I would see two big needs:

1) A database (which I see has been covered recently on the list).
2) Contact management software. I vaguely remember an Act! like program
for the Newton, Action Names or something like that. Is this still
available, and failing that, are there any other recommendations? Also
what are the backup implications for a product like that to Mac OS X?
