Back up. Brain wipe. Restore. Not sure it helps with speed in anything but mp3s. Can help clean up accumulated junk (not sure what that is, just that there is more memory available and the restore takes up less space.).
Mobile Backup <http://www.modasys.de> has "memory optimisation" as one of its prefs options.
