Actually, I've been meaning to move these investigations further for
quite some time. If you'd be willing to ship me your eMate, and
enclose a check for $20 to buy the special formula conductive pen
that I'm pretty sure will give a reliable fix, I'll repair your emate
for you with the pen, and mail you back the eMate AND the pen. Only
catch is that it's an experimental method and you might end up with a
conductive pen that doesn't actually fix eMates. On the plus side, if
it DOESN'T fix it, it IS totally reversable-meaning you can then just
resort to another one of the fixes.

(the soldering-based fix isn't reversable--if it doesn't work, the
cable's prettymuch fried. The pen-based fixes are 100% reversable,
but a pen that gives a long-lasting fix has yet to be found.)

Been meaning to just pick one up myself to try it out, but my wife's
been out of work a long time and...

If you wanted to advance Newton science, this might be an option.
