Assuming it is compatible with the Newton (first,
probably must be 5v not 3.3v, second, must work
with the third-party wifi drivers, and third,
must be recognisable as a modem device for
dialup-style comms) then it would provide...
* Wifi (802.11b) connections to base stations
* GPRS mobile dial-up connections, via a sim card
installed in the PC Card itself.
...giving Internet access from just about
anywhere you like, either via dialup or via
wireless LAN. This does sound very cool indeed!
The problem is the cost (about $480!) and not
knowing whether it would work in a Newton.
Hell, I'm still stuck trying to get my Intel wifi
PC Card to work with my base station, and it *is*
supported. I'm not sure I'd like to spend the
best part of $500 (okay, about £265) on something
with even less promise of success! But it does
sound cool. Now, I wonder if the manufacturers
could add Bluetooth as well...? ;-)
