This is a long shot but it did have an effect on a dead 110 that I had
at one point:

With the battery in the Newton take a piece of paper and fold it so
that when you slide down the power switch, you can insert the paper in
the power switch to keep the switch in the "powering on" position.
Leave the paper in there for 18-24hrs. After this, remove the paper
and plug the Newton in to the wall. Allow it to charge for 4 or so
hours. Now try powering it on (important, don't try powering on before
this).
