The reason this happened is because the supercap had half a charge. The
2x00's get funny when it gets half way for some reason. And the fix is
either to have the battery out and the unit plugged in for awhile or
leave it unplugged without battery for a hour or two and that should fix
it as you found.
As for the power switch. Yes it is a spot where faults can occur.
Apple put in good switches but still I try it use it as little as
possible (haven't had any problems but I am playing it safe). For
instance I use software to turn the unit off rather than using the
switch. Other people have reported that if you do get a sticky switch
you can sometimes take the switch apart and clean it. Not something for
the novice though.
