It does have one, but in my (non-upgraded, still G3) Pismo it almost
never kicks in. The fan is mounted just inside the left-hand vent on
the side, just in front of the PC Card slot. If you have the
PowerBook on an insulating surface (cushions, couch, bed, that sort
of thing) on a warm day the temperature will end up getting high
enough to trigger it. The noise isn't bad at all, but you would
notice it while it is on.

Me, I try to make sure that any laptop I use is placed to have
airflow beneath in some way, whether it is from using a special
stand, propped up on a book or two at hte back or both sides, or just
sitting with space between my legs. It really is kinder to laptops of
all varieties if you don't let them get *too* hot! :-)
