Okay, now I'm really confused. I got a null modem adapter. Still, not
working on Windows XP. In fact, here's how it's set up:

[Newton] -> [SER-001] -> [DIN8M-DB9F] -> [DB9M-DB9F null modem] ->
[DB9M-USB M] -> [USB Extension Cable] -> Computer

The computer detects the DB9-USB as a Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port,
and makes it COM4. Of course, this doesn't mean that NCU works on COM4.
NCU sits there and the Newton gives up after a minute.

I'm fairly certain the SER-001 is connected properly, but other than
that, I'm not sure what it could be.
