Yes it is annoying and I am sorry to hear it happened to you. And I
offer this advice to everyone on the list. DO NOT use "easy links" in
emails from companies that have anything to do with money. Open your
browser, type in the address then check your account etc. That is the
*only* way to be safe. Ebay, paypal, and other such sites will *never*
ask you for your password or offer links to go to their site. They all
now know that these jerks spoof the email address so they don't use
"easy links" for account information or notices.
If you look in the header information you can see such emails do not
come from the companies servers. But this can be hard to spot if you
don't know what you are looking for (or know what servers the company
uses normally).
The worst part is these scamers have ways of making the "easy link" look
like it does go to the companies site, AND even has the address in the
browser when you click on it. But in reality though use of certain HTML
codes they fake this information that before was used to determine if a
site was fake or not.
So again, *only* go to sites to enter password information (or any
personal information) by opening your browser and typing in the address
of the site you know is valid (like www.ebay.com). This will keep the
scammers at bay.
