Unlike Ed I've never had the pleaser of a 'stored energy shock'. However I
can add that for well under 100 you can replace the flyback transformer.
Have done it for my kid's and a friend's 1st Gen iMac (known problem), and
it is pretty easy. That said, I do also agree with Ed that the price for a
refurb monitor is pretty sweet...
