There's been a lot of talk about planned obsolescence with computers.
As a general rule, notebooks, wether they be PC or Mac, PO has always
been a lot stronger. A desktop model can be gutted out and upgraded a
piece at a time, whereas laptops cannot be easily upgraded except as
hard drives and memory (newer dell models can upgrade the graphics
card, but probably as a proprietary thing). So, as someone could never
play Halo on a Pismo, take a desktop of the same time, and you could
probably upgrade it to the point where you could play Halo.
The first company that comes out with an upgradeable laptop (processor,
sound card, graphics card, memory, bus speed) will have a big lead over
others. While technically possible, it would be a brick, and the rage
these days is lighter, thinner, cheaper.
