When IBM introduced its Thinkpad range the Black look turned many heads and
became fashionable. Before that everything was beige or grey. Just the
psychology of fashions. I wonder if anyone has done anthropological and
sociological studies on brand loyalty and tribalism? Soon everyone will
have a coloured machine and then we'll have to do something else to
differentiate ourselves. Does adolescence never end? Of course the answer
is NO. It's probably a key dynamic for ongoing improvement and
individuality.
This debate could go on forever, since this is very similar to an ageless
debate on "what is beautiful/aesthetically pleasing?"

For one, if you looked at the rest of the portable market when Apple
introduced the TiBook, everything else was black, including Apple's
Pismo.
They brought in a stunning looking machine that ran very nicely.
They were the envy of everyone else.
