THERE IS one more option that i started using. its called date reminder and it is for the birthdays that u dont want to make name cards for, you know like kids and other family/friend birthdays. its called date reminder and it can be found here http://download.planetnewton.com/download/databases/dbcalendars2.htm
the only problem i had is that u have to go into each card if you want to set the reminders. there is a setting in prefs, but if you dont set the card to give an alarm nothing happens. it also syncs with your name cards and includes all birthdays there.
