Here's another thought. Seeing Steve Jobs on the cover of Newsweek
magazine this week reminds us how right he was, as much as it's painful
for us Newton lovers to swallow. He discontinued a product that was
causing Apple to hemorrhage, (Newton) and replaced it with a device so
successful that it's become a cultural icon (iPod).
What would be really interesting (in my opinion) would be to hear
directly from Steve Jobs in the form of a video or print interview what
he really thought of the Newton. Not the rhetoric everyone one has
proclaimed over the years, but his honest feelings about the Newton
device and operating system. I find it hard to believe that he has such
distain for a device as elegant as the Newton was and still is today.
With so many years gone by, and given that even Jobs himself probably
has better perspective on the whole Newton experience. Don't you think
it would be great to hear what SJ really thinks about the Newton,
putting aside for the moment it's lousy profitability? Do you hear us
Mike Wallace?
