Or install a package that allows for turning on the backlight via a buttion,
menu, or backdrop. For example Sleepaid, AVI Backdrop, those are two I can
think of off the top of my head. I use this method as it is less wear and
tear on the switch not having to use it to turn the backlight on and off.

Or NBU (Newton Backup Utility). However I would suggest you install NCU
(Newton Connection Utilities) as that has more features (data export as well
as import)
