Actually, it's got very little to do with being a newbie. I knew
NEWSREADERS tracked threads like that, but I know that at least Outlook
Express (on the Mac) and therefore presumably Entourage parses the
subject line to determine threading. Which is very frustrating, as
other lists I've been a part of put their little [WXYZ] designator
BEFORE the 'Re:', which screwed up the threading. At any rate, I'm not
even sure some mailers even parse or keep the header lines
"References:" or "In-Reply-To:", I've never thought to check. BTW, I'm
not sure what OS X's Mail uses for threading clues, but I've never
noticed any problem with non-related items in a thread.
So, anyway, don't feel too bad, this is actually something that had
never occurred to me and I've been online in one way or another for
over 20 years.
