For any semi-serious venture, you would be well served by any of the Weller
temperature controlled soldering stations. Expect to pay around $100 for a
decent one. Digital temperature readout is nice but not necessary.

I have an analog temperature control iron. I can set the temperature right
up to 800F. I can also lock the set temperature so that no one can crank up
the heat. It has a bi-color LED to indicate set temperature.

The bits are replaceable and are plated to resist pitting. A stand for
holding the iron and a wet sponge to clean the tip are an essential part of
the deal.

This will cover most general situations but if you are going to get involved
with SMD devices, an SMD hot air station is what you need. This is the only
way to solder/replace these parts. Don't even think about a fine tipped
iron. Hot air is the way to go.

You can pick a half decent station up for about $200.

Now you need solder paste instead of wire.

Have fun!
