It is a reality! The Wiki has a lot of information that you can check
out for specifics. Also note only certain WiFi cards will work with
the Newton, though with Hiroshi Noguchi's driver and Paul Guyot's
"MoreWifiCards" app many are supported.

SSH is still AFAIK unattainable. There is a terminal emulation program
but I forget its name and I have never used it but as I understand it
you could only telnet with it. IRC I am similarly unsure of. I can
say that the state of web browsing has evolved a lot since NetHopper;
the two generally recommended apps are Eckhart's lightning-fast
"Courier" browser (text only) for light browsing that doesn't require
image rendering - find it at www.40hz.org (note it has dependent
packages that must also be installed) - and Steve Weyer's "NewtsCape"
browser, which has an odd interface but is very capable once you're
used to it - and also works as an eBook reader/creator. It's basically
a Swiss Army Knife for the web. You will find your web experience
differs from that on your desktop and is definitely pokier in
comparison, but if you scale down image colours and make a few
modifications it's definitely satisfying. I still recommend Courier
for most tasks due to its blazing speed. One final comment - at this
time there is no SSL support so you will not be able to log in to
secure sites (online banking and things of that nature).

Hey, while you're at it with wi-fi, why not also install MadMax and
stream some internet radio to your Newt! Check out the Wiki for some
more information, link at the bottom of all NTLK e-mails.
