Well Sony, nothing spooky about the system I'm trying to hook up to - it's
one of the Bell companies, in Louisville, Ky. And I've never had a problem
with modem connections with my other computers.
What I'm trying to do is establish an internet connection. For now, I'd be
happy if the Newt would establish the connection so I could access my shell
account at my ISP via a terminal emulator. The terminal program I'm using
is called "TermLimit", but the failure to connect is occurring before any
real terminal operations are attempted. Other programs I've tried, that
dial the phone for one reason or another, have similar results.
I bought this Newt from someone who was selling a bunch of them, and they
did a mass re-initialization of the software to re-establish the original
installation ... or at least that's what they attempted. I'm starting to
wonder if something is missing, but everything else seems to be working
fine. My other Newt - identical - gets the same result.
