How about because it was the legacy of the guy that had him ousted
from Apple back in 1985? And because he feels it was a near-crippling
use of time, effort and money, a problem that was systemic of Apple
during the early-to-mid 1990s?
I'm not saying he's right, at least as far as whether the Newton
was/is good or not, but if you step back and look at it from his
viewpoint you might be able to understand it a bit more.
(And BTW, it ain't no impression that he hates the thing. Displaying
Newton loyalty is still seen as a seriously career-limiting move
within Apple by those who are long toothed enough to remember those
days.)
