Victor did a good job of answering many of your questions explicit or
otherwise.

I'll address a few more

If you've got some existing books but want to change the format or
content, you can export from Newt's Cape as HTML to Notes or NewtWorks
and edit, then later open the HTML docs to re-process.

<TITLE> tag is useful to provide a default book title & identifier;
also look at info about ISBN (via META tag) when you want to get
fancier, e.g., having links between books.

by using the H1, H2, heading tags, you can get a hierarchical table of
contents (via overview button).

for scrolling, Newt's Cape splits text across pages automatically
(depending on the fonts you've selected); large pictures get a built-in
2-D scroller

books in other languages can certainly be done, though it requires
initial use of encodings to do the mapping into Newton's internal
character sets, and fonts (for both creator and reader).

you can also create applications entirely on the Newton -- basically
embedding NewtonScript in the HTML rather than Javascript and build
your own forms accessing many different Newton interface objects
(custom input for dates, countries, numbers, etc.)

finally, although having a MP2100 or MP2K is best due to speed & larger
memory, if you're willing to play with HTML in Notes, you can in fact
create books on any Newton, even a MP100.
