Actually I wouldn't call rechargeable alkaline batteries "rechargeable"
  while technically I suppose they are, they are certainly not really
viable. You have to charge them as soon as you use them to get the most
use out of them. And they have a nasty tendency to leak more than Nicad
or Nimh (or at least in my experience).

All other common battery technology (Lithum, Nimh, Nicad, etc) it is
best to discharge them fully then recharge them.

By the way, Rayovac Renewals are no longer manufactured anyway (Rayovac
replaced them with a new form of Nimh that can be recharged in 15
minutes). Which really goes to show that they are not really viable.
