Yes that was me, and I did have *much* better luck that way. Still not
as good quality wise as with importing the bmp directly with X-port, but
much better than previously.

Setting to 16 colors may be even better. However I have not tested this
  as windows would require a restart after this change, so didn't get
around to testing that yet.
