I used the card sometimes before I insert the ac adpater. And it worked =

Not really, the AC adapter wouldn't have made any difference. If it was =
going to fry it would have on the batteries as well. IF the Newt did=20
fry the card via adapter, then the Newt would not be around to make you=20
wonder if it was the card (aka it would be toast as well) ;)
