It seems to me that the central vision that a PDA should have is to be
semantically 'above' all the other devices in your menagerie, drawing the
threads of what you know together.

Ideally, I would like my PDA to access/view/modify the collected information
I hold on the various devices I own. In a small way this is what my Newt
does for me.

Sync is not really the issue - it assumes the PC has primacy - it's a matter
of gathering and organising information in summaries, overviews, graphical
networks etc. so I can draw on my resources and those from the web to learn,
explore and manage.

Data is currently scattered, ghettoised in islands of incompatible formats,
only loosely connected. A PDA should not be about substituting inferior
versions of existing equipment like cameras and phones but adding value by
making sense of my data.

A lot needs to happen before this can be made a reality but IMO it is in
this role that a PDA can shine - convergence is not the route.
