Take no chances - place the two IR plastic covers so close they touch
each-other ... goggles-to-goggles. As close as possible. It's kind of
inconvenient for interacting with the Newton, but all you really need
to do is hit "go" or whatever in dock to start the install (at least
with IRDA Installer which I use) - it isn't like you always keep them
that close together, just for the install. Maybe if the IRDA port on
your laptop (or newton) is worn out (if that's even possible), then
getting them really close together will help.
