Re: [NTLK] Jaggies - Unfixable

Sonny,

I believe jaggies are the biggest weakness of the Newton platform. I too
have tried nearly all the recommended measures to get rid of them.
Sometimes I get fooled into thinking that the problem has gone away but then
it randomly comes back. The only one I haven't tried involves shaving off
some plastic off the case. For this, I have sent a unit to Doug Parker to
try his hand at.

Sometimes the jaggies are particularly bad if the unit is not on a flat
surface, this supports your theory about holding the Newton in your hand.
Placing the unit on a flat surface definitely reduces the severity and
frequency of the jaggies.

Occasionally, running a business card underneath the bezel on the right-hand
side has worked as well. This supports the idea that there may be grime
between the bezel and the touchscreen making the digitiser falsely think
that the pen is in two places almost at once.

On other occasions, removing unused programs has resulted in the jaggies
mysteriously going away but always temporarily.

Without jaggies, there is no question that the Newton is a joy to use.

Cheers

I would have to agree with Frank, you need to change the Digitizer.

Previously I had some spare time - One Newton I got had the jaggies.
Testing by swapping parts such as described a dozen times did not help
one bit. I used four good motherboards. When I switch a Digitizer in
the problems went away.

I still think it's the way people hold their Newton. (How Hard they
hold it) The Digitizer breaks down due to this. The gripping of the
Newton with your hand probably puts pressure on the Digitizer which
alters the shape and causes the jaggies.
