Yeah, I had that attitude once, too. However, if you are still using an=20=

old scanner and color inkjet, like I was, well, it might be time to=20
consider upgrading, not for compatibility's sake, but for quality of=20
output's sake. My parents got a cheap scanner for free, and a=20
reduced-price HP inkjet when they bought their eMac (to replace their=20
SCSI and serial equipment), from their store, to "convince" them to=20
upgrade, and I have been amazed at the quality of the output from these=20=

cheap things. I have an ancient Epson SC 900 which is a _solid_=20
workhorse, and cost me about $250 as a floor model when I bought it=20
(they cost about $300 new) and it's served me well through the years,=20
yet when I saw what that bottom-line HP produced, I eventually broke=20
down and bought a new Canon Pixma bottom-end printer, and it's been a=20
dream. At this point in time, unless you are seriously in the straits=20
for cash, then holding off upgrading simply because of the serial/USB=20
issue is, IMO, a non-issue. Of course, if you keep your Performa, then=20=

those things will still work well with it, but as far as all that goes,=20=

you might be better served by simply retiring these things. :-) Think=20
about it, you have how many years on your Perfoma? At least 5 or 6! Our=20=

PowerComputing clone that our kids use at home has 10 years! I think=20
it's time to finally retire that one. ;-) So they are getting a mini.=20
Sadly, however, it probably won't have the lifespan of this early PPC=20
chip mega-box. :-(
