Now that I have launched NCU in classic I can see no reason to also install the package and backup tools.
So...I give up on NBU. All is well. Just wish I didn't have to install classic support to get this level of functionality.

There was some weird stuff going on before in that I think I had similar
issues _possibly_ due to me downloading from UNNA _not_ as binary. Are
you SURE your browser is downloading the .sit .pkg file as "Binary", if
not see the UNNA explanation and screen shots all about this specific issue.
