In reply to Andrew's useful posting:
To print to a printer from your Newton that you can already print to
from your Mac
Prints just fine!
should be simply a case of using the Macs current IP
address as the destination address when configuring the Newton's LPR
driver.
The Mac's address from Built-in Ethernet is 192.168.0.2 which is what
I"m using in the LPR setup slip, together with the name of the
printer as seen in the Mac's Printer Utility and lpd in the Queue
with spooling on.
You will also need an Internet Setup/Worksite config on the
Newton that matches that of your Mac. Just make sure the Newt's IP
address is different but the subnet mask (255.255.255.0 is common)
should be the same.
So I set up an Internet setup on the Newton using Manual (or should I
use DHCP?), wi-fi card, 255.255.255.0, a local address of
192.168.0.3, router address of 192.168.0.1, no DNS address.
I set up a worksite for printing with the only information being
name, city and printer name. Should I add the wi-fi setup to this
page or not? - in fact I get the same result either way.
When I try to print a note using the above it initializes, connects,
shows a slip with the note's text then returns to the print slip with
a -60047 Error message - invalid address. But which address?
And have I done everything correctly?
You might also find it really useful to turn on
Printer Sharing on your Mac via the Sharing System Preference pane
beforing attempting to print.
Printer sharing is on.
