In the unlikely, but really old rumors come true trifecta that
everyone's betting on this year (mac mini, intel switch, ?), I'd
wager money on a newton replacement before a Dell buyout. Frankly,
the corporate culture of Dell and Apple wouldn't mesh too well.
Sadly, I'd see an IBM buyout of Apple (which won't happen now) before
a buyout by Dell. Maybe an Apple buyout of Dell or a partnership with
Dell to sell x86 OS X machines. Perhaps Apple will find that selling
logic boards with Open Firmware, firewire, et. al plus the OS to OEM
vendors is lucrative.
For now, however, I'm going to keep betting on the resurrection of
the newton to complete the unlikely rumors trifecta.
