Many years ago, when I was dealing in wireless gadgets, I acquired a GSM phone pcmcia card. (I think it was Nokia). Being in the States, there was no way I could test this. At a CTIA show in Atlanta, I met a like minded individual from Germany who volunteered to take one of my Newtons along with this card, using his SIM back to Germany and give it a thourough test.
He apparently had a wonderful time sending emails from the most remote locations he could find and making the rest of us here in the states green with envy...
This served as a proof of concept showed the versatility of the Newton...Unfortunatly, at the time, there was not an equivalent device here in the states...At the time, I was using DTS through an AllPoints card.
I think that this was around 1996 or 1997? I'm not really sure.
I continued to send out Newtons on new and interesting projects including connecting a Newt to a Planet One satelite phone and sending it to the north pole, and with a Motorola Flip Phone with a Motorola Montana modem card. And with an AllPoints card and sending it to a lava field to monitor shifting in the hardened lava crust...
Those were the days....

Hi there
Am I correct in thinking that a nokia phonecard 2 would fit in my
MP2000. (I see a driver for this on Unna). This then accepts an ordinary
sim card and I could access my emails whilst out and about without
having to plug in a phone? Could anyone confirm/deny or suggest
alternatives.
[My current and proven method relies on wielding a Nokia 2110 plugged
into a nokia GSM card, all good fun but I feel like the time-warp kid]
Thanks folks
Andy
