A million thanks again for pointing out my mistake in omitting the PolyCell!
I completely missed it. Wow, what an air-head I am!
Somehow when I looked at the photos of how to rebuild the eMate battery-
packs [I'm dyslectic] I visually misinterpreted the photo of the
polycell so when I was doing the actual surgery I didn't even see it!
Now, looking back I see it clearly in the photos at pda-soft.de/
emate_battery_pack.html
Fortunately I saved everything, including the PlolyCell, so now I'm
removing the polycell and will attach it to the new battery cage. I"ll
take more photos and repost this week if I have time.
My Newton is "chiming" at me to "Complete YTD Financials" ! ! ! !
Jeeze, guess I'd better get number crunching, LOL.

WARNING: Please heed Frank's very wise advise regarding the PolyCell.
I'm sure that it's there for a good reason. Whether or not my design
using replaceable NiMH batteries is safe or not remains to be seen. If
in doubt please don't assume anything. Caveat Emptor or Caveat
Venditor, as the case may be, however please not I am neither endorsing
nor merchandizing my project for public consumption. It's just for my
own personal use and if the house burns down then at least I'm the only
one who didn't listen to good advise.
