In my experience they are not fixed by squeezing the case, neither
are they caused by software issues. People have reported that their
Newton's jaggies came or went away when a memory card was inserted
or ejected, but the software on this card doesn't influence the jaggies.
The mechanical fact that a card is inserted can influence the jaggies.
As for cleaning under the bezel, I do politely disagree. Slight cases
of the jaggies CAN be fixed that way. The problem is that you don't
really remove the debris by that, you only move it out of the way
and concentrate it in the corners, which isn't a good thing, either.
I haven't seen a single touchscreen suffering from the jaggies that
didn't have dirt in the area under the bezel. Dirt that had "dug in"
and couldn't be removed. Hence I'm convinced that by far the best
way to prevent jaggies is taking your Newton regularely apart and
cleaning both the inside of the bezel and the edges of the touchscreen
thoroughly. See

for info on how to do this.
