Well, I have to chime in with my own observations, miraculously overlooked by the Newton power developer folk:
I have observed that, if you have your stylus input size set to something larger than 2 pts, the stylus input will not perform well. "When would one change their stylus input?" you may ask. If you had been playing around with one of the art/drawing applications and were drawing thicker lines and other shapes, you may have inadvertently left the pen input size at something larger. Double-check your stylus input size. I strongly advise setting stylus input size to 1-2 pts.
