As someone who lived with the Jaggies (we used to call them the
"uncontrollable squiggles") for a very long time and engaged the best Newton
minds on this list and elsewhere in an effort to fix them, I can tell you
that anyone who says that they have found a "cure" for them, or that they
know how to "fix" them is mistaken. The sad truth is that the jaggies are
not fixed by squeezing the case or by cleaning under the edge or by by
worrying about software incompatibilities. My theory is that some screens
are simply defective and wear out after a certain amount of use.
But whatever the cause, in the end, you will try each of the cures that have
been suggested, and more, and you will think that you have it fixed, and
they keep coming back. If that happens to you, the only thing to do is to
give up, go to eBay, and get yourself a new Newton. You will be glad you
did.
Sorry to be so pessimistic, but I fought my way through this for no purpose
for too long. --Barry

Subject: [NTLK] Problems with pen alignment
Greeting Newtonians...
I am having problems - for the 1st time ever! - with a Newton. My 2100 seems
to be having problems with its pen alignment.
Everything was fine until a week ago, when I installed a program called
"FlashClock" that popped up a clock everytime I signed on. It installed the
package and a preference package.
Everytime I used the Newton from then on, the tracking is off so much that I
have trouble writing and using my keyboard. Simple words written seem like
zig-zag lines.
I have to redo the alignment in the pen alignment setup, and everything is
fine again ... until the next time I have to use my Newton!
After I experienced the problems with tracking, I decided to erase the app
and the prefs package - but I am still experiencing problems.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Craig W.
