IIRC - NCU installs the Apple Modem Tool and the AppleTalk ADSP Tool,
both of which are communications toolbox tools.

I have Mac OS X 10.3.9, and routinely connect my Newton to NCU via
AppleTalk using my Ethernet card under Classic.

I also use a USB-Serial adapter and connect via 'Serial'.
